The Innovation Accelerator: Teaching Design Thinking to Non-Design Students
Mar 6 | 10:15 AM
Location: Zoom Room 1
Professor Joe Musicco has served two terms as the Guiding Facilitator for Sheridan College’s Innovation Accelerator, which is a virtual internship program for students enrolled in a variety of academic disciplines at the school. The purpose of the Accelerator is to give students an opportunity to hone their entrepreneurial thinking skills through intensive immersion in design thinking and studio-based learning experiences. These 10-week programs give student teams an interdisciplinary design challenge to complete for a real-world collaborator. Students engage with a series of self-directed modules and are mentored by student facilitators who are steeped in design thinking processes. The experience culminates in a final pitch/presentation to an external organizational partner. The presentation will walk attendees through a usable, scalable model for virtual DT instruction based on a custom framework that was developed at Sheridan College for students who were seeking a valuable internship experience during the pandemic.
